Fundraisers continue to get more complicated as they become more and more an entertainment piece, ie. Fun runs with bubble machines, or paint fights and 5k's with mud pits or rope swings. There is now so much to think about when trying to get people to show up to your event, especially when you really just want to share about the work God is doing in your ministry and how people can get involved. Each spring we help a few Ministry Partners organize and put on fundraisers, so we have to take all of these complications in to consideration this time of year. This spring we'll have seven separate events! This is due to the word being spread that our online giving platform can handle the most robust, complicated event registrations in the simplest of ways. Here's an example from an upcoming Young Life golf tournament involving 14 Young Life areas. We want to take the weight and complications of registration and RSVPing off our ministries so they can focus on more important things. Check out our Events page to see more.
GOT Ministries is serving children with special needs in Guatemala in a unique way: in Santa Maria de Jesus and surrounding villages there are over 100 kids with special needs. These children have been removed from the public school system due to a 50:1 student:teacher ratio and are now attending a Christian school called New Life.
The children at New Life greatly need consistent therapy to support their independence and quality of life. GOT Ministries will be able to use the medium of therapy services to share the compassion, the comfort, and love that Jesus has for them through Occupational Therapy (OT). Students studying to become Occupational Therapists here in the US need to complete three months of field work as part of their education, which is typically done within a few miles of their University. One of our newest ministry partners, Megan Lewis, is the director of GOT Ministries. Megan has developed relationships with multiple OT programs in the US and plans to send students three times a year for their 3 months of field work to serve at the New Life School in Guatemala while getting hands on experience.
