January is always a busy time as we are planning for the new year with our ministry partners, organizing spring fundraisers and developing our own fundraising goals for the next twelve months. On January 15 our new staffer, Sean Fay, started with us. Here's a brief updated from Sean. I recently started a non-cash donation drive. It netted us a fair amount of books and sports memorabilia. Three weeks ago I started cataloging these donations. Today, wrapping up my third week, I can say that Perception Funding's space is starting to look less like a book depository / sports museum and more like an office. I couldn't be happier. It means that unneeded and unwanted items can now be used to benefit the work the Lord is doing around the world. Starting Saturday, February 1st , We will have 22 autographed sports and music items going on auction at eBay. A few things I am personally excited about are an autographed Hunter Hays Guitar, an autographed Joe Montana Football, an autographed Lou Brock baseball and a wonderful Buck O'Neil autographed Plaque. I really think there is something there for everyone and you should check it out.
giveDIGNITY is our ministry in Costa Rica - run by Seth and Andrea Sears who we have worked with now for over five years. In 2013 we spent time with the Sears putting together a child sponsorship program for underprivileged children who live in the slum of La Carpio. Even though education is free in Costa Rica, families still have to pay for the costs of uniforms, school supplies, bus passes, and often only can afford to send one of their children to school. giveDignity has come to realize that for every year of education a child receives, their future earnings increase, they wait longer to have children, they make better health decisions, and their ability to make meaningful choices about their future grows. Not only does the sponsorship program help people lift themselves out of poverty, it also allows the Sears to build relationships with the kids and their families and share the Gospel with them. On January 12, 2014, giveDIGNITY officially launched their sponsorship program having over 60 applicants and hoping to find sponsorships for 30 of them. In less then two weeks, 43 of those children have been sponsored at $500 a year by generous folks all over the country. In addition, others have given extra to help hire a local Costa Rican to help manage the program. It has been amazing to watch this unfold and a blessing to work with giveDIGNITY as we put the needed structures in place for the program to run smoothly. Learn more or sponsor a child!
Planning & Training
We have a lot of planning meetings and fundraising trainings for our Ministry Partners coming up. Please pray for wisdom as we lead our partners in important decisions that will effect their ministries for years to come. Also, continue to pray for Sean's financial support as we are very close to reaching our goal of bringing him on full time!
